I agree with BTS and see this as really the same issue as the Ground Zero Mosque. It's protected free speech under the First Amendment but not wise.
Doesn't this guy claim to be a Christian? To use a fundie expression, what would Jesus do? Seriously

tue sep 7, 9:21 am et end .byline washington (afp) the pastor of a small florida church said tuesday he will go ahead with his plans to hold a koran burning this week, despite warnings by the us commander of the afghan war of violent reactions in the islamic world.terry jones, who heads the dove world outreach center in gainesville florida, said he had given "serious" consideration to the concerns expressed by general david petraeus over plans to torch a koran to mark the ninth anniversary of the september 11 terror attacks, but said he would proceed anyway.. "we are taking the general's words very serious.
we are continuing to pray about the action on september 11th," he said.. nevertheless, he said "we have firmly made up our mind" to go ahead with burning the muslim holy book.. "i mean, how long, when does america stand for truth?

so i was thinking about this whole idea of animals being tame and getting along with each other and how the wts depicts this in their artwork.
i'm having a major issue with this.
how far down the food chain would this go?
There will likely be a reconditioning of the biologic and genetic makeup of humans and animals. There are broken genes in humans and animals that could contribute to nutrition if they were functional.
Isn't that evolution?? If Jehovah had wanted them to be herbivores, why didn't he make them that way to begin with? Did they start out that way and then de-evolve into carnivores and once the new system is here change back? How far done the food chain will this extend? To bacteria? To flys? Where is the line and why is it there? Without decomposition, the earth will quickly turn into a smelly mess. Unless the animals will also live forever?
Why did the animals start turning on each other after the Fall? What did they do wrong? They didn't sin.
I could never reconcile this teaching with the teaching that animals are not able to sin because they can't reason. Original sin was willful which was something the animals couldn't do.
i didn't see if blondie did a wt review or not, but i wondered if anybody else caught this?
paragraph 15.. .
sadly, though, some have become casual or even cynical about reminders concerning the need to stay awake.
There were some awesome comments made:
1 - The WT conductor related a story about how a group of folks who he saw grow up in his old congregation recently DA'ed in a group. He didn't say how many but it sounded like a handful at once. That actually made me cheerful in an otherwise maddening hour. Of course, it was because they were trusting in their own wisdom not because of anything the "slave class" said.
2 - Several references to non-JWs being completely destroyed. Got to have that death and destruction. Sadly, the first comment of the morning was from a 4 year old saying that the world will be destroyed.
3 - Ramblings about the evils of the internet! Tool of Satan.
4 - Ramblings about the "peace and security" prophesy. Seems to be some confusion about when it would happen (either pre or post great trib). I though the official teaching was, 1) fall of Babylon which begins great trib, 2) earth united under the anti-christ and UN, 3) call of peace and security, 4) then the Big A. Did that change because no one corrected the person that said the call of peace and security would kick off the great trib.
i want to start reading the bible more but i do not want to use the nwt.
the fact that the nwt took so many liberties makes me a little gunshy about other translations, which one would you recommend?.

Very interesting discussion. Marking for later.
the watchtower bible & tract society as homeland security clergy response team member: the big sell out.. http://hubpages.com/hub/the-watchtower-bible-tract-society-as-homeland-security-clergy-response-team-member.
anybody here got any info about this?
is this really true?.
Doesn't appear to be true. Here's a link of organizations participating. http://www.ready.gov/america/npm10/members.html#link2
I didn't see any of the WTS legal entities listed. Also, I'm not sure how the 501c tax statue requires that those using it must turn over all the details on all the members. Seems far fetched to me.
Clearly the WTS would do it if they needed to in order to keep their 501c status since they have a history of throwing anyone under the bus they deem necessary to accomplish their goals. But, I think the source is highly suspect.
i have been watching glenn beck for over a year and i like him...he says what most americans are thinking and feeling.
there is no doubt he has a love for our creator.
btw i was a jw for 10 years and left that religion for good...i have no desire to belong to another religion but i do consider myself a christian.. just wanted to know what your opinion is of glenn beck.
Just to be clear, the TARP bailout of the financial markets (Goldman, AIG, banks) was done under the Bush administration with bipartisan support. Both the Republicans and Democrats seem to be in the pockets of "big business" and they both want to screw over the average citizen.
The main problem with the major parties is that they have 2 main jobs: 1) to get elected and 2) to get re-elected. Both sides will do whatever it takes to accomplish those goals.
We need a viable 3rd party to shake things up. Of course, they'll get corrupted over time as well but at least we could make a little progress in the meantime.
mcp card distribution--an article.
sometime back i promise i would secure an article on the subject of mcp card distribution during the banda era by an educated malawian with firsthand experience on the subject.
i have fulfilled this obligation and today placed that article online at my blog.
Thanks Marvin. I was a kid during that time but was sickened by how the "brothers and sisters" there were treated. I remember being very afraid that I would also experience that type of persecution. Now that I know the full story, I can't help but wonder why the WTS took such a stand. Talk about poking a stick into a hornet nest.
Those thugs wanted money and had the authority of the government behind them. Your options were to 1) pay the extortion, 2) rise up and revolt or 3) allow yourself and your family to be tortured and killed.
That the WTS instructed those folks to refuse under this senario is unforgivable. All the blood that was spilled is one their hands just as much as it is on the thugs that actually did the deed.

I thought everyone knew that Romney and Beck are Mormon. I do think the LDS is also a cult but not due to their wacky beliefs but due to the amount of control they use to keep their flock in line.
Also doesn't Keller see that he thinks everyone that doesn't subscribe to his version of Christianity is an "abomination" that is going to "burn forever in the flames of hell"?? Wow, this guy is a wack job and a hyprocrite. At least he's upfront with what he thinks will happen to those that disagree with him.
I do agree with him that most people don't know or care what the Mormon belief (or JW belief) system is despite their aggressive proselytizing.
Yes, Beck wants to sell his books and is paid a lot of money to attract listeners for the advertisers that are paying his salary. He's an entertainer, nothing more.
BTW - notice the similarities with LDS & JW? Except the LDS has done a much better job of positioning itself to prosper and be part of the mainstream without losing the control. If I were the WTS, I would try to take as many pages out of the LDS playbook as possible.
i'm coming up on a year of when i first "woke up" regarding the org.
i still am "in" because i am trying to weigh out my options.
my wife is still mentally "in" and i know way to many people.
COC - same with me. It used to really bother me and for awhile I was paying even closer attention to the parts and then rebutting the points in my mind. It was agony giving talks because I tried really hard not to say things I thought were false.
Once I "stepped aside" from responsibilities, it became much easier.
Now, I rarely pay attention, just either read the Bible or daydream. Before and after the meetings, its easy because no one talks about "spiritual" things, so you can have a normal conversation.
I agree that this site is a great place to vent!
per a recent boe letter:.
-- new manual will be softcover.
-- elders can keep their old elder manual if they choose.
Thanks Sir82. I still can't stop myself from having a morbid curosity about this stuff. Can't wait to see your review of the program!!
